‘People who benefited from her death are in power’ - Cachalia on Deokaran murder

JOHANNESBURG - The masterminds behind the brutal murder of anti-corruption whistleblower Babita Deokoran are free because they are in positions of power.

That's the view of acting police minister Firoz Cachalia.

Today marks five years since Deokoran was gunned down outside her home for uncovering widespread looting at Tembisa hospital.

“The people who benefited financially from her death, and the reason why we don't have justice, is because those people are in power and can protect themselves. That problem of corruption is the disease and illness eating at our country’s hopes,” Cachalia said.
