JOHANNESBURG - Nearly 14,000 firearms have gone up in smoke in the second destruction of this financial year.
Police destroyed guns on Thursday in an effort to remove illegal firearms from circulation.
More than 300,000 firearms have been destroyed in the past seven years.
Most of them were confiscated during various operations, including Shanela.
Some are linked to criminal cases such as farm attacks, cash-in-transit heists and crimes against women and children.
All the firearms have undergone ballistic tests to determine whether they were used in other crimes.
