Police probe arson after Botha Sigcau building fire

MTHATHA - Police have confirmed they are investigating arson after a fire gutted the Botha Sigcau building in the Eastern Cape.

The 11-storey historic building in central Mthatha was left damaged after flames swept through it on Tuesday night.

Hundreds of employees who work in the building have been left uncertain about their next steps, with many awaiting guidance on alternative workplaces or temporary arrangements.

Workers report that the building houses at least 11 offices or departments, including education services, and some have attempted to continue working despite the fire. 

No injuries or fatalities were reported.
