Police to release crime statistics

JOHANNESBURG - Police leadership will release the latest national crime statistics on Friday.

The figures will reflect crime trends from the fourth quarter of the 2025/26 financial year, covering the period from January to March.

Acting Police Minister Firoz Cachalia will outline key developments in reported crime over the three-month period.

The previous stats showed that murder fell by 8.7 percent in the third quarter of 2025, while overall violent crime declined by 6.7 percent during the same period.

However, concerns have been raised by some over the credibility and completeness of the statistics, and whether they fully capture the extent of crime nationally.

Despite these declines, overall crime levels remain critically high across the country.
