PRETORIA – A widespread power outage in Ekurhuleni has disrupted water supply from Rand Water’s Mapleton Pumping Station, leaving at least six municipalities affected.
The municipalities include Lesedi, Govan Mbeki, Victor Khanya and Thembisile Hani, as well as the Ekurhuleni and Tshwane metros.
The Boksburg pumping station has been unable to operate since the electricity interruption was reported on Monday.
Rand Water said the failure to repair a faulty breaker and restore power had left it unable to resume pumping water to the affected municipalities.

“Despite repeated enquiries throughout the night, Rand Water has received no firm commitment from the City of Ekurhuleni on when electricity will be restored,” the bulk water supplier said in a statement on Tuesday.
“Rand Water remains unable to resume pumping and has no control over the restoration of the city’s electricity supply. At the time of this statement, the city had not communicated an estimated restoration time.”
