JOHANNESBURG - Large parts of Johannesburg are facing water supply disruptions following a power outage impacting the Eikenhof Pump Station.
Power supply was disrupted after a fire-related incident at the Fordsburg Substation on Sunday, which affected several substations, including Eikenhof.
This loss of power also disrupted water supply.

According to a statement by Joburg Water, due to the power outage which impacted the bulk supplier, the Randburg and Roodepoort System have declined to low and critically low water levels.
This has resulted in poor pressure to no water in various supply zones.
Some of the systems affected include:
- Honeydew Reservoir and Tower
- Boschkop Reservoir
- Linden 1 Reservoir
- Waterval and Quellerina Towers
- Helderkruin Reservoir
- Florida North and Horizon Towers
- Constantia Tower
- Witpoortjie Reservoir
"Despite the restoration of pumping to full capacity, customers will experience a delayed impact on water supply due to the period which there was no pumping from the Eikenhof Pump station," the statement read.
Meanwhile, City Power has confirmed that it has made progress in restoring supply following the Fordsburg Substation fire.

According to the power utility's spokesperson, Isaac Mangena, Bree Substation remains the only substation without power, affecting customers in the inner city of Johannesburg, Newtown, Hillbrow and surrounding areas.
"Power supply was restored just before 2am on Monday, 24 August 2026, to substations across the south, including Nirvana and Eldorado Park. This also enabled Rand Water to resume its pumping operations following the interruption to its electricity supply."Since then, teams have progressively restored supply to the majority of the other affected substations and areas, including Nancefield, Pennyville, Eikenhof, Soweto, Industria, Mayfair and surrounding areas. Braamfontein Substation has also been restored, with power supply successfully returned to customers in Braamfontein, Parktown and Parktown West," he said.
