A group of community members threw rocks and glass bottles at police.
Community members are demanding jobs and service delivery.
Deputy President Paul Mashatile is expected to speak at the main Youth Day event.
The theme is 'Skills for the Changing World - Empowering Youth for Meaningful Economic Participation'.
It comes as youth unemployment sits at 45.5 percent.
