Public Protector to release food poisoning probe report

JOHANNESBURG - The Public Protector will on Friday release findings from her investigation into the deaths of children linked to contaminated snacks sold at spaza shops and street vendors.

At least 23 children died in 2024, most of them between the ages of six and ten.

Tests found deadly pesticides, including terbufos, in some of the food.

The nationwide investigation is looking into what caused the deaths and what can be done to prevent more children from being harmed.
