R27m worth of counterfeit goods seized in Durban raid

DURBAN - Counterfeit goods worth R27-million have been seized in Durban.

A coordinated, intelligence-driven operation has dismantled a suspected counterfeit distribution point on Felix Dlamini Road in Sydenham.

Law enforcement officers confiscated more than 14 million cellphone accessories, with an estimated street value of R27-million.

The goods have been handed over to Customs for further investigation.

Fourteen undocumented foreign nationals were arrested for violating the Immigration Act.

Their employer was also taken into custody for allegedly employing illegal immigrants.

Further charges under the Customs and Excise Act and the Counterfeit Goods Act are expected.
