Ramaphosa happy with outcomes of AU meeting

ADDIS ABABA - The African Union Peace and Security Council Meeting coincided with the deadly conflict in the DRC.

South Africa lost 14 soldiers in Goma.

Upon the concluding of that gathering in Addis Ababa, Ethiopia, President Cyril Ramaphosa told the media that he is happy with what the leaders were able to achieve.

The 55-nation AU is meeting as Africa faces another devastating conflict in Sudan and after US President Donald Trump cut US development aid, hitting the continent hard.

Leaders voted on Saturday to elect Dijbouti's Mahmoud Ali Youssouf as the new chairman of the body's executive commission -- the AU's top job -- replacing Chad's Moussa Faki Mahamat at the end of his two-term limit.
