Ramaphosa ready for Phala Phala review bid

PRETORIA - President Cyril Ramaphosa is ready to defend his bid to overturn the Section 89 independent panel report on the Phala Phala matter.

The Western Cape High Court will hear his application from 2 to 4 September.

The court challenge comes as Parliament has established an impeachment committee following a Constitutional Court judgment.

Ramaphosa claims the independent panel’s process was flawed and failed to properly assess the legality and admissibility of the evidence. He is also challenging the panel’s finding that the allegations could amount to impeachable offences.

Vincent Magwenya, presidential spokesperson, said Ramaphosa wants to see the matter expedited and concluded.

"He has stated already in public, on record, that he has always respected our Constitution. He will continue to subject himself to the prescripts of our Constitution.  And more importantly, he will continue to abide by those prescripts," Magwenya said.

"He is quite anxious to see this matter concluded as soon as possible so that he can go on with his work."
