The bulk water supplier began servicing its systems on Thursday, leading to widespread disruptions across Gauteng, especially in Ekurhuleni.

Maintenance efforts are now shifting to the City of Johannesburg from Tuesday, with the project expected to continue well into July.

Rand Water says maintenance of its key infrastructure is on schedule, with the first phase successfully completed earlier on Monday. While pumping has resumed at the Mapleton Pumping Station in Boksburg, it's expected to take a few days for the system to recover completely.

And as the project now shifts to the City of Johannesburg, residents are expressing anxiety about the impending impact.

Essential services and businesses are scrambling to prepare.

But the City of Johannesburg has assured residents that this upcoming round of maintenance is less intensive, with robust mitigation measures already in place. A fleet of 97 water tankers will be dispatched throughout the period to minimise disruptions

While maintenance is scheduled to take place for a day, Rand Water says the recovery process will still take some time for all affected areas to regain supply.
