VERULAM - A Durban teenager and the teacher accused of raping her remain at the same school.
Her furious family claims the department has done nothing to protect her, but is instead shielding the teacher.
Although the matter was only exposed this year, the teacher’s advances date back to when the girl was just 13 years old.
The teacher allegedly confessed to the crime when he was confronted in January, even going as far as putting it in writing.
A case was opened and a medical examination proved the girl had been raped.

The teacher is currently out on bail, but has not faced any internal sanctions.
A relative says he's informed the KwaZulu-Natal education department and the school, both verbally and in writing, about his concerns, yet there is no positive response.
Although the girl is recovering, her family wants the alleged rapist out of the school.
The education department has not offered any response to questions around the handling of the matter.
