BOKSBURG – An alleged gang member has been taken in for questioning in connection with the multiple murders that took place in Reiger Park on Friday.
Two police officers part of the Anti-Gang Unit were responding to the shooting of two civilians when they were ambushed.
Acting Police Minister Firoz told fellow officers, family members and the community at large that the state would deploy all the necessary resources needed to bring the culprits to book.
On Monday morning, two R5 rifles linked to the killings were recovered near Germiston.
In a media briefing held with Gauteng Premier Panyaza Lesufi, Cachalia said a person of interest had been taken in.
“One person has been tken in for questioning. But he is not the only person of interest. These murders were not committed by one person,” he said.
He said the person of interest is a known gang member who is currently out on bail and facing six other charges.
Lesufi said “at least now we know who we are looking for.”
At the weekend, authorities visited the families of the slain officers. The funerals of the officers will be held on Saturday and Sunday, respectively.
Cachalia said he has not visited the families of the two civilians because investigations are still ongoing.
