JOHANNESBURG - Judge Isaac Madondo has dismissed a request from Steve Biko's family to have the Inquest into his death postponed.
The family's lawyer, Ngqiqo Sakhela, asked for more time to prepare.
The Biko family only secured his services on Monday, after government agreed to cover the costs.
It came after Legal Aid said Biko's widow, Nontsikelelo, had failed the means test.
According to Sakhela, the family wants certain witnesses who were not questioned by the family to be recalled.
Another bone of contention is that the initial 1977 inquest records, as well as TRC amnesty applications by the suspects, were written entirely in Afrikaans and have not been translated into English.
The inquest will resume on Thursday.
The Black Consciousness leader was killed 49 years ago.
He died on 12 September 1977 from injuries sustained while in police detention.
No one has ever been held criminally liable for his death.
