Residents warned not to drink tap water in parts of Joburg

JOHANNESBURG - Johannesburg Water has issued an alert over possible water contamination affecting parts of the Johannesburg CBD and Bezuidenhout Valley.

The affected areas include Albertina Sisulu Road, 10th Street and surrounding avenues after residents reported a strong smell coming from their tap water.

As a precaution, the utility has isolated the water supply and begun laboratory testing to determine the source and extent of the problem.

Residents in the affected streets have been advised not to consume tap water until further notice, while alternative water is being supplied through roaming tankers.

Johannesburg Water says pipelines will be flushed and further updates provided once test results are available.
