Riah Phiyega denies links to 'Cat' Matlala

JOHANNESBURG - Former national police commissioner Riah Phiyega has strongly denied allegations made during testimony at the Madlanga Commission linking her to Vusimuzi “Cat” Matlala.

Phiyega denies claims that Matlala visited her home on 14 May, calling the allegation entirely false and a complete fabrication.

She says she has never met Matlala and is seeking a formal opportunity to challenge the testimony through legal channels, stressing the urgency of addressing the matter.

Appointed in 2012, Phiyega served three years as national police commissioner.

Her tenure was marked by controversy, notably the Marikana massacre inquiry into the police’s role in the killing of striking miners.
