CAPE TOWN - President Cyril Ramaphosa says the Madlanga Commission is an opportunity to overhaul the criminal justice system.
He was speaking at News24’s On The Record Summit. The summit brings together leaders from business, academia, and civil society to discuss solutions for South Africa's problems.
"The criminal justice system needs to be restored. All the horrendous stories have been quite revealing. There are some who say no president you shouldn't have set up this commission as its terrible news, and I say we need hear all the terrible news and we need to understand where we come from and having known where we come from we will then understand what we then need to do in the present," Ramaphosa said.

He said the Madlanga commission was a great opportunity to overhaul the criminal justice system.
“It is giving us an opportunity to get all the thugs out of the system so that we restore that system because in the end, passive crime which has been happening breads fear and mistrust.”
