SA moves to evacuate citizens trapped in Middle East conflict

PRETORIA - South Africa is preparing to bring home citizens caught in the Middle East conflict.

The Iranian Embassy in Pretoria says it's working with the Department of International Relations and Cooperation (DIRCO) to help evacuate those trapped in the war.

DIRCO says more than 6,400 South Africans have registered on its Travel Smart system.

It urges them to use the limited commercial flights available to leave the affected areas.

The department also advises against all non-essential travel to the region and repeats its call for restraint in line with international law.
