SA receives 2 million more FMD vaccine doses

JOHANNESBURG – Two million more foot-and-mouth vaccine dose have arrived in the country.

The doses of the Dollvet vaccine arrived in South Africa on Tuesday from Turkey. 

The Department of Agriculture has now coordinated the importation of eight million vaccine doses since late February. An additional five million doses are expected to arrive soon.

“South Africa’s total imported vaccine volume will rise to 13 million doses. When combined with the 2 million BVI vaccines doses secured last year, the country will have 15 million doses by the end of May 2026,” the department said.

The department said it plans to vaccinate 80 percent of the national herd, comprising approximately 14 million cattle by the end of December 2026.
