JOHANNESBURG - The first group of South African troops deployed to the Democratic Republic of Congo as part of the SADC mission is returning home.
The soldiers will arrive at Air Force Base Bloemspruit in Bloemfontein on Friday afternoon.
This follows the termination of SAMIDRC's mandate in March, with withdrawals being conducted in phases.
The Minister of Defence will welcome the troops and address the media at Tempe Military Base.
The SANDF has confirmed the withdrawal process is proceeding as planned, despite earlier reports of logistical challenges.
