Salga heads to court to halt 1 July AARTO phase 2 rollout

PRETORIA - The SA Local Government Association (Salga) has approached the High Court in Pretoria to urgently interdict the implementation of AARTO Phase 2.

The case will be heard on Tuesday.

Salga cites unresolved financial implications of AARTO for municipalities. Despite repeated engagement with the Transport Department and Minister, the issue remains unresolved.

Salga says that while it supports AARTO, the current model threatens municipal financial sustainability and could undermine service delivery. Phase Two is scheduled to take effect on 1 July.
