CAPE TOWN - South African National Taxi Council (SANTACO) in the Western Cape has raised concerns over what it calls a growing trend of excessive force being used on its drivers by law enforcement.
They say this often happens at times without provocation
SANTACO Western Cape spokesperson Mandla Hermanus has reacted to a video footage which surfaced of Metro Police officers wrestling with a minibus taxi driver in Cape Town.

While acknowledging that not all drivers are innocent, Hermanus emphasised that they continuously urge their members to comply with law enforcement to prevent squabbles.
Meanwhile, Safety and Security MMC JP Smith defended law enforcement saying police have the right to use necessary force.
Meanwhile, in a statement, the taxi association reiterated its stance arguing that there is no justification for officers resorting to excessive force when dealing with drivers.
