JOHANNESBURG - Disgraced police captain Laurance Makgotloe is back before the Pretoria Magistrates’ Court, facing allegations that he manipulated ballistics reports linked to several high-profile cases.
Makgotloe is currently out on R15,000 bail and has been barred from returning to his workplace in Silverton while the matter unfolds.
At the centre of the case are allegations of serious errors and omissions in a ballistics report connected to the murder of Vereeniging engineer Armand Swart.
The firearm recovered in connection with Swart’s assassination, an AK-47, has reportedly been linked to 30 other high-profile murders. Those cases include an attempted-murder matter involving alleged criminal kingpin Vusimuzi “Cat” Matlala.
The State says new evidence has emerged and is currently being investigated.
