JOHANNESBURG - The Presidency has confirmed that it will respond to court papers filed by the uMkhonto weSizwe Party at the Constitutional Court.

The party is challenging the appointment of Professor Firoz Cachalia as Acting Police Minister, as well as the establishment of a commission of inquiry into allegations of corruption within the South African Police Service (SAPS).

Meanwhile, Parliament’s Portfolio Committees on Police, Justice, and Intelligence are expected to submit a report outlining the terms of reference for the commission.

This follows explosive claims by KwaZulu-Natal Police Commissioner, Lieutenant-General Nhlanhla Mkhwanazi, who alleged political interference, collusion, and links between SAPS members and organised crime syndicates.
