SA's food crisis under scrutiny at SAHRC inquiry

JOHANNESBURG - The Human Rights Commission is wrapping up its investigative hearings into the country's food systems.

The inquiry was launched to address the paradox of food sufficiency while millions go hungry.

About 14 million people face hunger, and 30 children die daily from malnutrition, despite a national food surplus.

UCT's Children’s Institute will make submissions on Friday. It's calling for child nutrition and children’s best interests to be prioritised in plans to reform the food system.
