JOHANNESBURG - The South African Social Security Agency is introducing mandatory biometrics for social grant beneficiaries.
The Beneficiary Biometric Enrolment system will be introduced to all Sassa offices next month.
The agency believes this will help detect and halt fraudulent activities in the Sassa grant system.
Biometrics were earmarked for introduction at the beginning of this financial year.
But there were issues with organised labour.
Sassa says those issues have been ironed out, paving the way for the system's implementation.
