Scammer drives off in businessman's BMW

DURBAN - Imagine going to fetch your million-rand car from a service centre, only to discover it’s been given to a thief.

Durban businessman Ancel O'Reilly didn’t have to imagine that nightmare.

It’s exactly what happened to him last year.

And to date, he has not been compensated at all.

Consumer journalist Wendy Knowler says service centres are expected to take measures to safeguard clients’ vehicles.

A case registered with the SAPS at the time has since been closed, apparently because of a lack of leads.

To date, we have not received a response from the service centre.
