'Security measures in place for elections' - Hlabisa

JOHANNESBURG - Inter-Ministerial Committee on Elections chair Velenkosini Hlabisa has promising the polls will be safe.

Police have identified 331 high-risk voting stations nationwide, including 165 in KwaZulu-Natal.

Hlabisa said measures are in place to protect the process.

"The security cluster is doing its work as they have identified the potential areas as areas of high risk. But all systems are in place to ensure that nothing disrupt the election process as from tomorrow until Wednesday.

"We are confident that the security cluster has done all that is necessary from intelligence point of view to make identification and put systems in place to ensure that all is well. And I call upon all political parties to help and contribute in stabilizing and normalizing the three election days to be travel free, be tolerant, allow people to make their choices and every member of the community.

"Let us use this time to express our views, not radically or in any violent way, but peacefully by using the power of the mark, the vote in our hand to mark a new disposition for our councils."
