JOHANNESBURG - Acting National Police Commissioner Puleng Dimpane has welcomed the arrest of a senior police officer facing allegations of rape and sexual grooming.
The 59-year-old Lieutenant-General is accused of allegedly raping an 18-year-old woman at a hotel in Sandton in May.
He also faces allegations of sexually grooming a 16-year-old girl between July and August 2026.
The officer was arrested on Monday by members of the Commission’s Recommendations Task Team (CRTT).
Dimpane says police officers are entrusted with protecting women and children and cannot themselves be implicated in conduct that undermines this responsibility.
The senior officer is expected to appear before the Randburg Magistrate’s Court on Tuesday.
