Severe cold, wet and windy conditions expected from Sunday

JOHANNESBURG - South Africa has been warned to prepare for a severe cold front expected to reach the country from Sunday.

The weather system is forecast to bring heavy rain, damaging winds, rough seas and snowfall to parts of the Western and Northern Cape before spreading to the Eastern Cape and inland.

Authorities have warned that flooding and hazardous driving conditions are likely, especially in mountain passes.

Farmers have been urged to protect livestock from the severe cold expected.

Government has encouraged the public to monitor official weather updates, avoid flooded roads and plan before travelling.
