Severe weather warning issued for several parts of SA

JOHANNESBURG - Several parts of South Africa are set for severe weather.

Gauteng, Free State, North West, Limpopo and Mpumalanga face a Level 5 warning as heavy rains and thunderstorms threaten flooding, road closures and low-lying settlements.

Emergency services are on high alert and are urging residents to stay indoors and take precautions.

Johannesburg EMS's Kagiso Phasha says they remain on high alert together with their specialised rescue team, which responds to water-related emergencies. 

Additionally, disaster monitoring teams are monitoring areas and are on standby.
