The show goes on despite Trump's G20 non-attendance - Lamola

JOHANNESBURG – International Relations Minister Ronald Lamola says decisions will be taken despite the US’s non-attendance at the G20 Summit.

Other countries like Russia, Mexico, China and Argentina will not have their leaders present; however, they will have delegates representing them.

Lamola says this is very common and, therefore, is not moved by the US’s announcement not to attend.

“In their absence the countries that are present must take a decision and that is what is happening. The Sherpas (leader representatives) are negotiating the leaders declaration. We are moving towards making a decision… In the course of the week we will know the outcome,”

Lamola says the country is ready to host the Summit.

With meetings taking place throughout the year, the main event, which is the Leaders’ Summit, will take place on 22 and 23 November at the Nasrec Expo Centre.

A total of 42 countries have confirmed participation.

An additional 16 guest countries, as well as six countries representing regional economic communities in Africa, the Caribbean, and East Africa, will also attend.

Before the leaders’ summit, the city will host the G20 social and business summits, set to run from 18 to 20 November.
