Sibiya denies ordering removal of PKTT dockets from KZN to Gauteng

PRETORIA - Suspended Deputy National Police Commissioner for Crime Detection Shadrack Sibiya has denied giving an instruction for the Political Task Team (PKTT) dockets to be moved from KwaZulu-Natal to Gauteng.

Sibiya maintained he only directed Lieutenant General Khosi Senthumule to hand over the 121 dockets to the head of provincial detectives.

“I have never given such an instruction,” Sibiya said as he continued his testimony before the Madlanga Commission.

“It never happened that I said take the dockets from KZN to head office. They took the dockets themselves to head office, now it is on my shoulders, and I am the one who must now bear responsibility when in fact, I did not give this instruction.”

He maintained that only he directed the dockets to be sent to a repository to be established by Senthumule.

However, contrary to saying there was no instruction from him, a letter by Sibiya read out at the commission dated 4 February 2025, directed Sentamule to take possession of the dockets and all evidential material of the projects of the PKTT within seven days.

Senthumile previously told the commission she was placed under pressure by Sibiya to take possession of the dockets. Sibiya agreed.

Sibiya admitted to writing the letter; however, he claimed he did not mean taking possession of the dockets in a literal sense.

“Taking possession by General Senthumele doesn’t necessarily mean she has to go there physically to collect the dockets and bring to head office. It means it is under her direct control,” Sibiya told the commission.

“When I say, do a handing over, get the dockets, it’s a logical formal way of doing a handing over. So, we can account for every exhibit and make sure they’re kept safe. It’s just a simple administrative process.”

Sibiya said that after he had been informed that the dockets were in Pretoria, he directed that investigations be completed.
