Sibiya fond of Mkhwanazi, Witness F tells Madlanga Commission

PRETORIA – Contrary to evidence presented before the Madlanga Commission, Sergeant Fannie Nkosi says embattled deputy police commissioner Shadrack Sibiya is fond of his KZN counterpart, Commissioner Nhlanhla Mkhwanazi.

Nkosi is continuing his testimony before the commission.

Quizzed by the commission’s chief evidence leader, Advocate Matthew Chaskalson SC, on the relationship between the two top cops, Nkosi said in 2024, Sibiya sent him to Mkhwanazi in an effort to improve relations between them.

“General Sibiya once called me to his office and asked me to go to General Mkhwanazi to try and make peace between them, they were not getting along at work. If Sibiya did not like Mkhwanazi, he would not have made that effort,” said Nkosi.

However, Chaskalson was not convinced.

“I have to put it to you that you know that answer is false. He [Sibiya] doesn’t like General Mkhwanazi. All the evidence we’ve seen thus far is that he doesn’t like him," he said.

Following his intervention, Nkosi said by February 2025, relations between the two cops had improved.

Asked how Sibiya gets on with the National Commissioner Fannie Masemola, Nkosi said he did not know the nature of their relationship; however, when pressed by co-commissioner Sesi Baloyi, he acknowledged they did not have a good relationship.

“The relationship is not that good but General Sibiya only told me about his relationship with Mkhwanazi and not Masemola.”
