PRETORIA - Suspended Deputy National Police Commissioner for Crime Detection, Shadrack Sibiya, has told the Madlanga Commission that numerous social media posts in favour of KwaZulu-Natal Commissioner, Lieutenant General Nhlanhla Mkhwanazi, were orchestrated.
Sibiya began his first day of testimony before the Commission on Wednesday.
Without providing proof, Sibiya said he has been given names of users who were part of Mkhwanazi’s social media machine. He also claimed there was a targeted campaign to discredit him.
“I’m told there are many accounts on social media. Directly or indirectly, there is no way he is not involved,” Sibiya said.

Asked if he had knowledge of Mkhwanazi having a personal social media account, the embattled top cop said he did not know.
“If it is the case that he does not have control over what people say about him, it cannot be that it is only about General Mkhwanazi and not any other provincial commissioners. All the pictures, whether its camouflage, everything that is happening on a daily basis about Mkhwanazi is on social media.”
Pressed by the evidence leader Advocate Adila Hassim SC, whether his utterances were based on speculation, Sibiya remained adamant that he was not speculating.
“Everything about him gets immediate attention,” Sibiya added.
