SONA 2026 | Ramaphosa orders lifestyle audits for senior SAPS officials

CAPE TOWN - Senior South African Police Service officials are set to be vetted again.

President Cyril Ramaphosa says the State Security Department will do the vetting, which will include lifestyle audits.

The shocking revelations coming out of the Madlanga Commission and parliament's ad hoc committee triggered the move.

"The State Security Agency will re-vet the senior management of the South African Police Service and Metro Police Departments. The vetting process will include lifestyle audits as well," Ramaphosa said.

"As we have successfully done with previous commissions, we will use the recommendations of the Madlanga Commission to make far-reaching changes.

"We are determined that the Commission's findings and recommendations will lay the basis for a fundamental reform of our criminal justice system."
