Soweto man back in court in global teen sextortion case

JOHANNESBURG - Alleged international sextortionist Ifeel Simango is back in the Protea Magistrate’s Court, facing a string of serious charges linked to an investigation spanning several countries.

The 30-year-old Soweto man is accused of using social media to lure victims, many of them allegedly underage, before subjecting them to sextortion.

Simango faces charges including murder, money laundering and the possession and distribution of child sexual abuse material.

Investigators have identified at least 52 alleged victims worldwide, including two South Africans.

The case came to light following an investigation into the death by suicide of a 17-year-old Swiss boy.

Simango remains in custody after abandoning his bail application.
