Soweto places high hopes on G20 promises

JOHANNESBURG - Residents of Soweto say they are pinning their hopes on concrete outcomes from the G20 Leaders’ Summit.

As global leaders endorse a declaration prioritising food security, energy access and opportunities for youth, locals say they want the commitments to translate into real change.

Residents say the promises of the G20 must now deliver real change to jobs and livelihoods.

Local businesses say they’re counting on increased financial backing as global attention turns to South Africa’s economic challenges.

Attention now shifts to whether the bold promises made will be put into action and bring real change to daily life beyond the conference halls.
