Specialised teams deployed to investigate Cleveland mass shooting

JOHANNESBURG - Tactical Response Teams, forensic experts and other specialised units have been deployed to assist in the investigation into the Cleveland mass shooting.

Twelve people were killed and nine others were wounded in the attack.

It is believed that a group of more than 10 men were involved.

A team of provincial and national units is working around the clock to track down the suspects.

Meanwhile, the Gauteng Provincial Government has condemned the incident.

In a statement on Wednesday, the Gauteng Department of Community Safety’s acting spokesperson, Nhlamulo Baloyi, described the attack as a direct assault on the safety and dignity of local communities.

Baloyi called for a swift investigation into the matter.

"We condemn this barbaric act in the strongest possible terms and call on law enforcement agencies to leave no stone unturned in bringing those responsible to justice," Baloyi said. 

Authorities have urged anyone with information to come forward.
