CAPE TOWN - Agriculture Minister John Steenhuisen was a no-show at a youth empowerment event in Stellenbosch on Wednesday.
He was notified of his planned transfer to Trade and Industry just hours before. The Democratic Alliance wants Willie Aucamp to replace him as minister of Agriculture Department.
Aucamp was previously Forestry, Fisheries and Environment minister.
The event in Stellenbosch was meant to be Steenhuisen's engagement with young people and industry role players within the agriculture industry. But minutes before, a statement from the Democratic Alliance with its intentions to sack him from the department was issued. And Steenhuisen did not pitch.

The event continued, with planned discussions tackling topics on how to attract young people to the space, by industry role players. Among the issues raised was the lack of interest by young people to the agriculture sector.
The department said it was working to create more opportunities for young people and bridge the funding gap.
