DURBAN - There’s been a breakthrough in the 2021 Sydenham mass shooting.
KwaZulu-Natal Murder and Robbery Unit detectives arrested a suspect on Wednesday night, almost five years after the deadly shooting.
Six people were shot and killed at a house in the Palmiet Road informal settlement in Sydenham on 16 October 2021.
Three more people were killed in two separate incidents on the same day, allegedly by the same suspects.
Two suspects were identified in connection with the killings.
One was shot and killed during a shootout with police after allegedly resisting arrest.
The second suspect was eventually traced to the Obuka area in Melmoth, where he had allegedly been hiding and was arrested last night.
He is expected to appear in the Durban Magistrate’s Court on Friday.
