CAPE TOWN - Police fired tear gas at protestors outside Milnerton High School in Cape Town.
The school is investigating an assault incident after video footage showed a Grade 10 pupil being beaten with a hosepipe, a belt, and a hockey stick.
Principal Gert JP van Tonder has announced the precautionary suspension of eight pupils.
However, the victim’s family accuses the school of failing to act when the matter was first reported last Thursday.

Some parents are also not happy with the way the school has handled the matter and picketed outside the school on Wednesday.
Protestors were then involved in a scuffle with police who fired stun grenades and tear gas at them.
“Everyone here was gathering peacefully, not violent, there was no risk,” said one protestor.
“There are more police officers than I have ever seen in Nyanga, Khayelitsha and Mitchells Plain. Why are all the police officers here and why aren't they allowing us to protest?”
