CAPE TOWN - A teenager is expected to appear in the Athlone magistrate’s court on Monday for a mass shooting in Philippi East.
Nineteen-year-old Bheki Manxiwa faces nine murder charges, an attempted murder charge, and two counts of robbery.
He and two others allegedly shot and killed nine people on 17 January at a Philippi East Tavern.
Police say the attack was related to extortion.

During his last appearance, the court heard that Manxiwa and his co-accused had been drinking at another location before heading to the Marikana informal settlement.
The National Prosecuting Authority in the Western Cape says Manxiwa faces Schedule 6 offences, with more charges likely to be added.
Police say the search for two outstanding suspects has been expanded across the province.
