KUGOMPO CITY, Eastern Cape - Rape allegations have rocked a primary school in the Eastern Cape.
It's alleged that a 14-year-old boy raped a nine-year-old girl several times at the school in KuGompo City.
Racial divisions are fuelling tensions over the incident because the white boy is believed to have received preferential treatment. The girl is black.
The mother of the girl has taken her child out of Willowpark Primary, accusing the school principal of not taking appropriate action.
eNCA tried to get a comment from the school, but those efforts were in vain.
The Eastern Cape Education Department said the alleged perpetrator has been suspended pending the conclusion of a disciplinary process.
The 14-year-old has since appeared in the East London Magistrate's Court.
He is under parental supervision until his next court appearance in April.
The girl's family said the boy's parents are yet to make any contact with them.
