JOHANNESBURG - Businessman Stefan Govindraju is back in court on Tuesday, facing 70 charges linked to a procurement fraud scheme at Tembisa Hospital.
Govindraju is accused of being the kingpin in a syndicate that used 75 companies to secure approximately R600 million worth of hospital contracts.
Investigators allege that about R100 million was paid to officials as kickbacks in connection with the contracts.

While the criminal case continues, the Special Investigating Unit (SIU) has also moved to recover assets allegedly linked to the scheme.
The SIU has secured R42.4 million in cash and assets believed to be connected to alleged bribes at Tembisa Hospital.
The assets include properties, pension benefits and investments allegedly linked to the suspected corruption network.
