KUGOMPO CITY - The March and March movement has staged protests outside foreign-owned spaza shops in KuGompo City following allegations that drugs were found in a box of cereal sold at one of the stores.
The protest comes just days before the group's self-imposed 30 June deadline for undocumented migrants to leave South Africa.
March and March leader Azola Mrhano says the alleged discovery has heightened tensions in the community and strengthened the group's campaign against undocumented immigrants.
He also accused authorities of failing to respond adequately to community concerns and vowed to continue protesting until undocumented migrants are removed from local communities.
Meanwhile, Foreign spaza shop owners in Mitchells Plain said they are tired of being scapegoated.
They say they are constantly blamed for taking local jobs.
More than 200 migrants, some documented, others not, have turned to police for protection, fearing the impact of the unofficial 30 June deadline on their businesses.
