JOHANNESBURG - Johannesburg Water has dismissed reports of water contamination in the city as fake news.
The water utility spokesperson, Nombuso Shabalala, insists there are no confirmed water contamination incidents affecting Johannesburg and urged residents to stop sharing these messages, as they create ‘unnecessary worry and confusion’.
As such, she has referred residents to the water utilities' official communication channels for any information.
“Water quality concerns reported in a particular area should not be interpreted as affecting the entire city. Any precautionary water quality advisory issued by Johannesburg Water applies to the specific areas identified in that notice.
“Customers in those areas should continue following the guidance provided until the advisory is officially lifted,” she said.
Shabalala has also urged residents to report any concerns about changes to water quality, including unusual colour or smell.
These issues, she said, will then be attended to with tests through accredited laboratory processes.
