JOHANNESBURG – Three civilians were injured following a high-speed chase between police and suspected cash-in-transit robbers on Friday.
Gauteng police spokesperson Dimakatso Nevhuhulwi said the civilians were travelling along the N12 road in the afternoon when a white vehicle carrying three suspected robbers lost control during an exchange of gunfire with police and collided with two civilian vehicles.

The three suspects were certified dead at the scene, while two AK-47 rifles, multiple rounds of ammunition and magazines were found inside their vehicle.
“The injured victims were transported to hospital for medical attention,” she said.
According to Nevhuhulwi, the shootout followed a crime intelligence operation in which law enforcement officers received information about a group using two vehicles allegedly planning to commit a robbery in Roodepoort.

She said the white vehicle involved in a high-speed chase with police was spotted on Kliprivier Road.
Meanwhile, said the second vehicle, also white, was traced to the Johannesburg CBD, where two suspects were arrested, she added.
