KARIEGA – Three police officers have been killed in the Eastern Cape.
The constables were found with multiple gunshot wounds on Rudman Street in Kariega on Thursday morning.
Two were declared dead at the scene, while the third died in hospital.
Preliminary reports suggest that a male constable forcibly entered a house where his former girlfriend -- also a constable -- and another male officer were present.

Police say witnesses reported hearing gunshots shortly after the incident, with all three officers sustaining fatal injuries. A state-issued firearm and 10 live rounds were recovered at the scene.
The Independent Police Investigative Directorate (IPID) will conduct a parallel investigation in terms of the IPID Act.
SAPS has also opened an internal disciplinary docket.
